Peacocks & Elephants

Sacred Animal Connections
Some beings touch our lives in ways that go far beyond the ordinary. They carry wisdom, grace, and presence that awaken something deep within the heart. For me, the Elephant and the Peacock are such guides—teachers of patience, beauty, and divine remembrance.
The Magnificent Elephant
There are few beings on Earth as majestic, ancient, and soulful as the elephant. To stand before one is to feel the pulse of the Earth itself....steady, gentle, and endlessly wise. Elephants carry an aura of timeless dignity, teaching us that true strength flows from love, patience, and remembrance.
Childhood Remembrance
I remember, as a child of around eight, being taken to the carnival at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall with my little sister, who was four. There was a circus there too, but my father, with his gentle wisdom, said he didn’t believe animals should be made to perform.
Yet he found a way for us to visit the animals behind the scenes—to offer them kindness. It was there that I met my first elephant. I remember her vastness, her deep knowing eyes, and the chains that bound her feet. My heart ached for her, and my father’s heart ached too. That moment stayed with me always, shaping the way I would see all living creatures.
Later in life, I was blessed to meet elephants again, in Thailand and India. Sitting with them, bathing them, looking into their eyes—I felt their ancient wisdom, their compassion, and their gentle strength. Offering Reiki and love to these magnificent beings, I felt them receive it fully, their energy softening and expanding like golden light.
The Spirit of the Elephant
In Indian tradition, the elephant symbolizes strength, wisdom, and divine protection. Lord Ganesha, with his elephant head, removes obstacles and brings peace and prosperity. In Buddhism, the elephant represents mental strength, calm perseverance, and the power of mindfulness. Every step of an elephant is a meditation in grace and patience.
To connect with the energy of the elephant is to awaken the Bodhisattva within—the aspect of ourselves that loves without measure, forgives without hesitation, and carries the weight of compassion with quiet dignity.

A Blessing from the Elephant
May you walk the Earth with the patience of the elephant—sure-footed, calm, and filled with grace.
May your heart be vast enough to hold joy and sorrow alike, and your wisdom deep enough to see beauty in all things.
May you remember your own strength—not in power over others, but in the gentleness you share.
May you find peace in the steady rhythm of your own heart, and may love guide every step of your sacred path.
The Elephant remembers, and so do we—that we are one with all that lives.
The Sacred Peacock Feather
Many people ask what my connection is to the Peacock. Each time I smile, because it feels less like a choice and more like an ancient remembrance. The Peacock has moved beside me for as long as I can recall, a messenger of grace, joy, and spiritual awakening.
Our journey began in 2001, when Rachael, Jonathan, and I moved into a new home. On the front door was a glass image of a peacock, shimmering in the sunlight as though quietly blessing the space. A dear friend, the sweet Jo Chan ♥, told us that it was an auspicious symbol for us.
From that moment, the Peacock became a gentle guardian of our lives. Friends began to refer to our home as The Peacock, and soon it was lovingly called The Peacock Peace Temple and The Peacock Peace Garden.
The Peacock’s feathers, radiant with sapphire, emerald, and gold, reflect the light of the soul and the awakening of consciousness. Across the world, many traditions revere this bird: in India, the Peacock embodies love, beauty, and compassion, qualities linked to Goddesses Lakshmi and Quan Yin. In Buddhist tradition, it represents renewal and the courage to release negativity in order to walk the path of enlightenment.
The Peacock also carries the energy of the Bodhisattvas, beings of profound compassion who dedicate themselves to uplifting the world. If you feel drawn to this energy, you may be walking the path of a Bodhisattva—someone who loves deeply, forgives easily, and carries the light of wisdom with humility and patience.
A Blessing from the Peacock

May you walk with the poise and beauty of the Peacock.
May your heart radiate love and compassion, and your actions reflect wisdom and courage.
May every feather of your being unfold with grace, revealing the divine colours of your path.
And may you remember always: the beauty you see in the world—and in yourself—is the eternal reflection of love.
Together in Spirit
The Elephant and the Peacock offer us complementary teachings, guiding us along the sacred path of life. The Elephant reminds us to move slowly and deliberately, to ground ourselves in patience, resilience, and enduring compassion. The Peacock teaches us to open our hearts fully, to celebrate the beauty and joy that arise when we honour the light within ourselves and others.
Together, they guide us to a deeper harmony—a balance of strength and grace, patience and radiance, stillness and joyful expression. They show us that true spiritual power is not in domination or control, but in awareness, love, and the ability to uplift every soul we encounter.
To walk in the energy of the Elephant and Peacock is to embrace both the quiet depth of wisdom and the luminous beauty of the heart. It is an invitation to remember that all life is sacred, that every creature carries a spark of divinity, and that when we align with this truth, we awaken the Bodhisattva and divine light within ourselves.
May we honour both strength and beauty, patience and joy, in our own lives, and may we be a living reflection of the love, wisdom, and grace that these magnificent beings embody.
